Spectators are welcome to bring mobile phones/devices to The Open as long as they do so in accordance with the following rules:

  1. The users of mobile devices brought into the venue must comply with the instructions of marshals and R&A officials.
  2. At all times mobile devices brought into the venue must be set to silent and remain on this setting when within the venue.
  3. Mobile devices may be used for voice calls provided this is not close to play or practice areas or is likely to disturb play in any way. There will be designated, signposted areas in which attendees can make or receive phone calls and not disturb play.
  4. Mobile devices can also be used for data transfer (e-mails, text messages, website access etc.), they must be on silent and must not be used in a manner that has the potential to disrupt play or practice.
  5. Still photography of play is permitted provided that it does not disrupt play and images are not used for any commercial purpose where The R&A will retain copyright. Flash photography is not permitted during practice or play.
  6. No audio or video capture is permitted at any time.
