Can I bring a mobility scooter or wheelchair to The Open?

Modified on Thu, 27 Jun 2024 at 12:56 PM

Those wishing to bring a mobility scooter or wheelchair into the venue can do so. However, it must fit within the following dimensions:

  • The maximum dimensions permitted for wheelchairs are 1200 mm length x 700 mm width (47.25 x 27.5 inches.)
  • The maximum dimensions permitted for mobility scooters are 1200 mm length x 600 mm width (47.25 x 23.6 inches.)

Power sockets for charging electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters are available at the Accessibility Hub in the Spectator Village.

It is not a requirement, however it is strongly recommended that users of powered wheelchairs or mobility scooters have Third Party Liability Insurance in case of injury or damage to persons or property.

An Accessibility Guide for The 152nd Open is available on our website here.

Please note that The R&A has the right to restrict or refuse entry on the grounds of safety if the environment and/or the mobility device is considered a risk to the user and/or other spectators. Such times may be in severe adverse weather/ground conditions or if the specification of the mobility device presents an increased risk.
